This project seeks to make the viewer confused and almost uncomfortable through the display of odd portraits, where the subject is partially covered. In this series of self-portraits, the photographer’s upper body is captured wrapped in various recycled materials.
Initially, the project explored the concept of ‘restriction’, however, it developed and incorporated a wider set of meanings.
The series was conceived for open interpretation and for this reason, the photographer doesn’t suggest a specific interpretation. Despite that, she was inspired by Freud’s theory on the uncanny, and the vivid memory of being restricted during the recent COVID-19 pandemic has also had a significant impact. Also, Wrapped represents a subtle critique to fast fashion and, therefore, to its consequence of polluting the planet.
“Wrapped” aims to encourage the viewer to a subjective interpretation, according to their own feelings and life experiences.

This series was featured in the Class of 2023: Photography Exhibition at the University of Roehampton.
